Tyreek Hill’s name is part of trade chatter again, and this time the conversation feels fairly substantial.
The Miami Dolphins’ All-Pro wideout remains one of the league’s most dangerous players, but recent injuries, a massive contract and reported interest from multiple teams have fueled talk that he could be on the move.
“I have talked to a few teams who are at least monitoring his future a little bit,” insider Jeremy Fowler said on ESPN’s SportsCenter (h/t NY Post). “Could he be a potential trade target? Now, I know the Dolphins earlier this summer were telling teams, ‘No, we’re not trading Tyreek Hill.’ But they just wonder, is he going to be available? It could be wishful thinking, maybe they want him to be available. But he’s a player, when I bring up to teams, ‘Hey, who is sort of a trade target you’re watching?’ — they bring up Tyreek Hill.”Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report put together four trade proposals for Hill, and the San Francisco 49ers are at the top of his list.
GettyA new trade proposal would swap Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill with 49ers Wr Jauan Jennings.
Sobleski’s trade idea proposal send Hill to the 49ers in exchange for wide receiver Jauan Jennings and a 2026 sixth-round pick.
“The San Francisco 49ers have both the financial and roster flexibility to make a deal for Hill happen. They have also been close to winning a Super Bowl during Kyle Shanahan’s tenure,” Sobleski wrote, adding:
“With Brandon Aiyuk still recovering from last year’s knee injury and Jauan Jennings demanding a new contract, San Francisco can change its wide receiver room in one fell swoop by trading for Hill, who automatically becomes the squad’s No. 1 target at the onset of the 2025 season.”
Since entering the league in 2016, Hill has earned eight Pro Bowl selections (2016–2023) and five first-team All-Pro nods, plus a Super Bowl ring with the Kansas City Chiefs and a spot on the NFL’s 2010s All-Decade Team.
If Miami ever engages, the 49ers would be a fascinating fit. Kyle Shanahan’s offense is built on pre-snap motion, formation variation and stressing leverage, and Hill is at his best in those situations. There’s little doubt Hill would supercharge that stress alongside Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle.
Sobleski thinks trading Jennings for Hill would be advantageous for both the Dolphins and the Niners.
“Jennings brings a unique skill set in Shanahan’s system, which Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel knows quite well, yet he lacks the explosiveness and field-tilting capabilities Hill presents to change the 49ers’ offensive complexion,” Sobleski noted.
“Conversely, the Dolphins can rid themselves of Hill, bring back San Francisco’s top receiver from last season, get a little younger and almost certainly save money even with a contract extension for Jennings being a part of the bargain.”
It’s true Hill had an off year in 2024, but in 2023, Hill was the league’s most explosive receiver (119 catches for 1,799 yards and 13 TDs). In 2024, he battled injuries (including wrist surgeries) and saw a dip to 81/959/6, but still threatened defenses vertically and after the catch.
The Niners currently have just under $47 million in cap space, which is third-most in the league. Hill has a cap hit over $27 million this coming season, so this would be a doable move, especially if the Niners were to rid themselves of Jennings’ $4.2 million cap hit in the process.
If the Dolphins do have a change of heart about trading Hill, you can expect John Lynch and company to be on the phone.
