5 Former Bruins Who Are Still Free Agents

These five former Bruins have still not been signed in free agency.

With it being the fifth of July, most big-name free agents have found their new homes. While this is the case, there are still multiple former Bruins who have not been signed yet. Let's discuss five of them now.

Kevin Shattenkirk

After posting six goals and 24 points in 61 games for the Bruins last season, Shattenkirk still has not been signed. That certainly has the potential to change, as the New York native still provides some offense from the point and can work on the power play.

Shattenkirk, 35, should be able to land a cheap one-year deal before the season starts if he wants to keep playing. While he may not be the top-four defenseman he was during his prime, he is still a serviceable bottom-pairing guy.

James van Riemsdyk

James van Riemsdyk is another former Bruin who has yet to be signed. He is coming off a decent 2023-24 season, posting 11 goals, 38 points, and a plus-7 rating in 71 games for Boston. However, he cooled down as the year went on.

van Riemsdyk, 35, will likely find a home this summer, as he is still a solid top-nine forward at this point of his career. Teams looking for a bit more production in their bottom six could end up calling.

Blake Wheeler

Former Bruins forward Blake Wheeler is still without a home at this point of the summer. This is not particularly surprising, as he is contemplating his playing future.

Wheeler, 37, appeared in 54 games this season with the Rangers, posting nine goals, 21 points, and a plus-2 rating. He suffered a serious leg injury that ended his regular season in February, but he returned for one playoff game against the Florida Panthers.

Jarred Tinordi

Jarred Tinordi is another former Bruin who has not signed with a new team. The 32-year-old spent last season with the Chicago Blackhawks, where he had nine assists, 171 hits, and a minus-27 rating in 52 games. A team looking for more defensive depth and size could give him a two-way deal.

Oskar Steen

After being unable to cement himself a permanent spot on the Bruins' roster, Oskar Steen elected to look for opportunities elsewhere this summer. At this time, he remains unsigned.

Steen, 26, played in 34 games for the Bruins this season, where he had one goal, 79 hits, and a minus-2 rating. He has the potential to get a two-way deal from an NHL club.

Other former Bruins who are still looking for their new homes include Jayson Megna, Malcolm Subban, Zane McIntyre, and Kyle Keyser (Providence).
