9-1-1 Has Yet To Do The Best Possible Way To Honor Bobby's Legacy

9-1-1 may have killed off Bobby Nash, but the fire captain’s legacy could be preserved with one minor change. Peter Krause’s shocking exit from 9-1-1 came in a jarring twist ending, leaving most viewers understandably caught off-guard. Afterward, 9-1-1 dealt with Bobby’s death at a surface level, giving the character a funeral and burial but not a proper send-off.

The set-up for Bobby’s death in 9-1-1 was sorely lacking, making the storyline feel like an intentionally shallow storyline included for the sake of shock value. While Bobby’s friends and family worked through some of their grief in the 9-1-1 season 8 finale, the bombshell plot was left in a state of stagnation. Fortunately, 9-1-1 season 9 could fix that.

9-1-1 Should Publicly Preserve Bobby’s Memory By Renaming The Fire Station

A Real-Life Precedent Could Easily Justify The Change

Peter Krause under a harsh spotlight as Bobby Nash in 9-1-1 season 8.

The best way 9-1-1 season 9 can pay tribute to Bobby is by making him a permanent fixture of the series, which could easily be achieved within the set itself. In order to immortalize the beloved fire captain, 9-1-1 should rename the central fire station after Robert Wade Nash, giving the fallen fire captain a ceremonial plaque for his service.

Considering all Bobby did during 9-1-1’s intense disasters, a commemorative plaque on station 118 is the least he deserves. Having the Nash name on the firehouse would additionally ensure that Bobby is always there for the most important moments, albeit in the background. Furthermore, renaming the station would be far more meaningful than a simple picture on the wall.

Plus, it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility in the real world. There have been multiple cases of stations, roads, and statues named after fallen first responders. Bobby was a true pillar of the community throughout the bizarre, perilous events of 9-1-1. While mainly ceremonial in nature, turning station 118 into Bobby’s legacy would be a fitting homage.

Why Renaming 118's Fire Station To Bobby May Not Happen

Unfortunately, while it would be the perfect end to Bobby’s final storyline, 9-1-1 season 9 will likely breeze past the fallen fire captain as quickly as possible. The procedural has already failed to address the harsh truths surrounding the twist death, like Bobby’s suicidal past in 9-1-1. The lingering controversy surrounding Bobby’s untimely demise only makes satisfying resolution less probable.

Given the public discontent, ABC may want to wash its hands of Bobby Nash completely. The final episodes of 9-1-1 season 8, while lackluster, provide the bare minimum to resolve the narrative. With Bobby buried in Minnesota and reduced to a baby’s namesake, 9-1-1 has no further obligations— as such, his hero’s tribute will likely never come to fruition.
