Editor's Note: The introduction below contains a potential spoiler for an upcoming episode of '9-1-1.'
There are a number of ways that 9-1-1 can give Bobby a funeral without killing him off, like having him fake his death out of necessity, or having him buried alive as indicated by the leaked script from Oliver Stark's now-deleted Instagram story. One thing is clear, and that is that 9-1-1 cannot lose Bobby. He is a fundamental part of the show, and he is the heart of the 118. So, as fans wait for the upcoming funeral episode, here are 9-1-1's 10 best Bobby Nash moments, ranked.
10Bobby Tells Buck About His First Loss on the Job
Season 1, Episode 2
In the second episode of 9-1-1 ever, Buck (Oliver Stark) struggles throughout the episode after a tough loss on a call. Seeing how much pain that Buck is in, Bobby opens up to him about his first loss on the job. He tells Buck the name of the person he lost, as well as each of the little details about her, including the fact that she drew smiley faces on her shoes. After all this time, Bobby still remembers every single detail.
9Bobby Threatens To Fight Brad for Being Rude to a Service Worker
Season 8, episode 7
In the first half of Season 8 of 9-1-1, Bobby finally gets to leave Hotshots, and he gets his job back as the Captain of the 118. Brad Torrence (Callum Blue) isn't willing to let Bobby go that easily, though. Brad has issues working with Gerrard (Brian Thompson), and he wants to learn how to be a real firefighter from Bobby. Bobby takes Brad out to dinner to try to change his mind about Gerrard, but instead, he sees Brad throw a tantrum over an olive.
Brad is very rude to his and Bobby's server, so Bobby tells him off in a fantastic moment. The ever-gentle and level-headed Bobby Nash gives Brad a much-needed reality check where he calls him entitled. Bobby then makes Brad apologize, and threatens to "kick [his] blimey ass" if he doesn't. It's an excellent scene that shows how Bobby is always standing up for other people, and how he's not afraid to push back when necessary.
8Bobby Opens up to Chimney After Learning That His Blood Can Save Hundreds of Lives
Season 1, Episode 8
Bobby's Season 1 scenes are very important for his character, showing who he is, how his past affects him, and the arc that he is about to embark on. Towards the end of the season, Bobby reluctantly gives blood after Chimney (Kenneth Choi) asks him to, even though he hates needles. Bobby is then told that they found something in his blood, but it turns out that they found something that could save many lives of mothers and babies with a rare condition.
While Chimney is thrilled about this, Bobby is upset, because this means that he will have to stay alive. In an emotional scene, Bobby opens up to Chimney about the list of names that he's been writing to keep track of the people he saves. He tells Chimney about trying to get penance for the apartment fire before he is eventually planning to end his life. Ultimately, Chimney is able to encourage Bobby to take a second chance at life.
7Bobby Proposes to Athena
Season 2, Episode 10
It is then revealed that Bobby has two presents for Athena: a key... and a ring. Bobby's proposal is an excellent moment, as he takes a major chance years after his greatest tragedy, letting himself have love in his life again. His speech to her is great, as he talks about how fleeting life is, and about grabbing onto happiness. The best part is that she cuts him off by immediately saying yes. This moment is an amazing one, especially looking back many seasons later, as they're still happily married.
6Bobby Tells the 118 About His Figure Skating History
Season 3, Episode 8
When the 118 tend to an emergency where several figure skaters got injured, Bobby casually reveals that he was a competitive figure skater as a child. It's an excellent reveal that adds a great little detail to his character's history, but even better is the moment the next day when he shows up to work. At Buck's suggestion, the 118 present Bobby with a cardboard cutout of himself as a child figure skater, and his reaction is hilarious.
5Bobby Starts the Family Dinner Tradition at the 118
Season 2, Episode 16
Before Bobby was Captain of the 118, it was a really difficult working environment. Gerrard was bigoted and unfair, and as a result, the 118 was an awful place to work. The 118 of present is a warm and inclusive place where everyone is a found family, and where Bobby (and now Buck as well) regularly cooks meals for everyone. This all starts in a flashback during Season 2's "Bobby Begins Again," where Bobby decides to make some changes now that he is Captain of the 118.
4Bobby Saves May and She Calls Him Her Dad
Season 5, Episode 16
Bobby's tragic backstory has hung over him for the whole series, as he still struggles with guilt over the apartment fire that killed his family and over a hundred others. Through his marriage to Athena, Bobby took on the role of May (Corinne Massiah) and Harry's (Elijah M. Cooper) stepfather. It has been such a beautiful and important thing to see Bobby and Athena build their family together over the years.
One of the best moments related to this is when May almost dies in the dispatch fire in Season 5's "May Day." Bobby saves her life, and then afterwards, Bobby and May have an incredibly touching scene. As Bobby is being brought to the ambulance on a stretcher, May insists on going with him, telling the medic that Bobby is her dad. When Bobby tells her she doesn't have to lie, she tells him that she isn't, and that he is one of her dads.
3Bobby Spies With Michael and David
Season 4, Episode 7
Hilariously, Michael and Bobby get David (John Hensley) involved as well, which leads to Bobby and David digging through trash together. It's such a fun moment where Bobby gets way too into something impractical, while turning into a little spying team with Michael and David. This is Bobby at his funniest, and it actually turns out that he and Michael are right, and Michael's neighbor has been illegally performing plastic surgery in his apartment.
2Bobby Pours His Heart Out to Athena When They’re About To Die
Season 7, Episode 2
Every season of 9-1-1 starts with a large-scale emergency, and Season 7's sinking cruise ship is an intense one. Bobby takes Athena on a belated honeymoon, while she is not as enthusiastic about the idea. The two get stuck at the bottom of the ship while it's sinking, in a very emotional scene. Bobby apologizes to Athena and tells her that he never deserved her, or to have a second chance after what happened to his first family.
1Bobby Throws His Book of Names Away
Season 1, Episode 10
Bobby Nash's best scene is a major turning point for his character that takes place at the end of Season 1. Over the course of the season, Bobby's backstory gets revealed, including the book that he's been using to track his penance. In the Season 1 finale, Bobby and Athena bond on a particularly difficult call, and then he asks her out on a date. While preparing for the date, Bobby has a nice conversation with Chimney.
After Chimney leaves, Bobby throws away the notebook, officially letting go of his penance plan and choosing to commit to being alive for good. It is a beautiful scene that means so much for Bobby's character, and that also shows his resilience, as well as how much his relationship with Athena means to him. It is a lovely and quiet scene, and it is the first step of the rest of Bobby's character arc as he moves past the apartment fire
