There are going to be a lot of changes for the main set of characters on ABC’s 9-1-1 when the title returns for its ninth season this fall. The major one will, of course, be the fallout and continuation of grief following the passing of the firehouse captain, Bobby Nash (Peter Krause).

But aside from the shared roller coaster of emotions that the members of the 118 will be going through, there will also be personal highs and lows that will carry the characters through the next set of episodes. For Oliver Stark’s Evan “Buck” Buckley, he’ll be on the hunt for a new home, or maybe he’ll have already found that cozy corner of the world by the time the Season 9 premiere airs. Either way, after Eddie (Ryan Guzman) decided to ditch his new life in Texas and return to Los Angeles, Buck was forced to return to the housing market.
While speaking with TV Insider, Stark opened up about what he thinks his fan-favorite character is looking for in his new digs.
“Nice, natural light, nice place to cook breakfast. I think more than anything, just something that feels like his. The loft that he was in for a long time was great, and obviously, he let that go. And I think he probably liked living at Eddie’s, but it wasn’t his, right? He was there for a reason: to help out his friend. And I think it’s time for him to step into that next version of himself reflected in the space that he lives in.”
What Else Will Buck Be Looking for in Season 9?

In addition to a new home, audiences are hoping that plenty of good things lie ahead of Buck and his journey throughout the highly-anticipated season. Let’s face it, the shocking death of Bobby threw everyone off kilter, but affected Buck even more, as he looked to the captain as not just a leader and mentor but also as a father figure. Meanwhile, he went through plenty of ups and downs with Eddie, as the best friends got on one another’s nerves, celebrated each other’s successes, had a tearful goodbye, and shared a (kind of) joyous reunion.
Many fans are still wishing and waiting for the day when the creative team will make good on their character building between Buck and Eddie and turn their relationship into a romantic one. But, aside from that, Stark has teased that there is “a more grounded worldly Buck” on the way, as he’ll step up and into more of a leadership position following the passing of Bobby.
