9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 15 Trailer: A Fan-Favorite Character Is Running Out Of Time After Being Exposed To Deadly Contagion

The trailer for 9-1-1 season 8, episode 15 teases a shocking second part to the deadly virus storyline, with the life of a fan-favorite in serious jeopardy. The episode will be the concluding part of a double episode focused on the outbreak of a contagion. The 118 is in the middle of responding to a fire at a lab designated for lethal viruses, when two of the team, including Kenneth Choi’s Chimney, get trapped inside. When his mask blows off, he is exposed, setting in motion the events of part two, which could become one of 9-1-1’s best-ever episodes.

Per the ABC YouTube channel, the trailer depicts the upcoming second installment of a two-part deadly contagion storyline. The trailer shows team member and fan favorite Chimney bleeding and coughing after being trapped in a lab with a deadly virus, as he tells teammates, “I’m running out of time.” Buck and Athena remain outside, weighing their options. Additionally, the clip shows Hen upset, Chimney’s bleeding worsening, Buck sobbing, and a firefighter collapsing in a hallway. The trailer also confirms that Athena is on her way with the antidote, but it could be too late. Check out the full trailer below:

What This Means For 9-1-1 Season 8

The Season Could End On An Emotional Note

With just four episodes of 9-1-1 season 8's 18-episode run remaining, this contagion storyline could have consequences that impact the rest of the season. The stakes are high here, and it is unclear who is safe, with Chimney seemingly in very real danger of death. The beloved character appears to be in grave peril, and there is no guarantee the team can get him an antidote in time to save his life – whether he can be saved at all at this point is even unclear.

While the nature of procedural storytelling suggests that he will be saved late in the day, there are no guarantees, and popular shows often remain so by surprising their audiences.

There has been no confirmation that Choi will be leaving 9-1-1, and if the show does make the decision to kill off such a prominent character, it would be a real shock to audiences. Killing off established characters is always a risk for any show, but it can also generate positive attention, making the show unpredictable and raising dramatic stakes. Chimney is one of 9-1-1’s best characters, but showrunner Tim Minear has said that none of the show’s main cast are unkillable, so there is every chance the episode ends in tragedy.

Our Take On 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 15’s Trailer

Things Aren’t Looking Good For Chimney

Things don't look promising for Chimney, and his shocking death should not be ruled out at this stage. While the nature of procedural storytelling suggests that he will be saved late in the day, there are no guarantees, and popular shows often remain so by surprising their audiences. With 9-1-1 season 9 officially renewed, there is a good chance that the denouement of season 8 will bring with it many shocks that continue to be felt into season 9, even potentially changing 9-1-1 as a show. Chimney's death would certainly qualify.
