‘9-1-1’ Star Reveals “Nothing Is the Same” in Season 9 After Bobby’s Death

Last season, the first responders of 9-1-1 experienced a heartrending loss that will forever change the show’s trajectory. In Season 8 of the procedural, Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) passed away after being exposed to a deadly virus while the 118 was trapped in a lab. Putting others first, he didn't let anyone know he was compromised but gave the only antidote to Chimney (Kenneth Choi), Maddie’s (Jennifer Love Hewitt) husband, who also needed it.

Since the tragic loss, a few on the 9-1-1 team have weighed in on what the show would be like without Bobby’s warm presence, noting that it would never be the same. Most recently, Hewitt also had a few things to say, echoing her co-stars’ thoughts to Entertainment Tonight on the I Know What You Did Last Summer carpet on Monday, July 14. Per TV Insidershe teased a “sad” Season 9 without Bobby, maintaining that "It’s not the same. Nothing is the same," before adding:

“But I do think that when you’re telling a story about first responders, unfortunately, those are the things that happen, and he was the person that mattered to everyone in the cast the most, and so I felt like he was our hero, and he always will be.”

9-1-1 was renewed for a ninth run earlier in April, though an exact premiere date has yet to be announced. Meanwhile, it has been confirmed to continue airing on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET this fall and will be joined by Ryan Murphy's new spinoff, 9-1-1: Nashville. Besides Krause, fans can expect all the series regulars to return for Season 9, including Hewitt, Choi, Angela Bassett as Athena Grant, Oliver Stark as Evan “Buck” Buckley, Aisha Hinds as Hen Wilson, Ryan Guzman as Eddie Diaz, and Gavin McHugh as Christopher Diaz.

Just last week, it was confirmed that 9-1-1’s next season would begin filming very soon, much to fans’ relief. Stark made the announcement days after Hewitt revealed that the drama series was only a few weeks away from returning to production. Sharing the production status of the show, Stark said in an Instagram video, offering an exact date, stating that filming begins in "eleven days," which, from then, meant July 22 and would mark the end of "waking up late" for the star. So, get ready, people, we’re now six days away from 9-1-1 Season 9 entering production ahead of its fall release.

9-1-1 is expected to return this fall, but stay tuned to Collider for future updates on the new season.
