Choi’s Howard “Chimney” Han has some big shoes to fill in the upcoming season, as he’s stepped into the position of Captain following the much-disputed death of Peter Krause’s Bobby Nash. But, if the Season 8 finale told us anything, it’s that Chimney is up to the challenge. In the episodes following Bobby’s sacrifice and the finale, every member of the 118 was grappling with the devastating loss in their own way. By the end, it seemed as though the family was going to break up for good, with Oliver Stark’s Buck putting in a request to be relocated to another firehouse and Ryan Guzman’s Eddie gearing up to return to Texas. But, Chimney put a quick end to all the nonsense, ordering the found family members to stick together and not pull away from one another during such a trying time. While nothing is set in stone, it certainly looks like showrunner, Tim Minear, is gearing up for Chimney to take over the open leadership role in the upcoming set of episodes.
Kenneth Choi Didn’t Want Peter Krause To Go
Like so many of us, Choi was just as heartbroken to learn that the creative team was making the difficult decision to kill off Krause’s Bobby Nash. The unexpected death sent shockwaves through the fandom, which Choi previously revealed were equally felt by him and the rest of his coworkers, explaining that he was in shock when Minear first broke the news.
“And he explained creatively why he thought it was the right choice, and I fought him on it. And I continued to fight him on it. I fought him on it up until we kind of did the funeral stuff, because I was thinking, ‘Maybe they’ll pull it back. Maybe they’ll change their minds. Maybe they’ll reverse course.’”
