While ABC’s 9-1-1 may be all about delivering character bombshells and plotline shockers, what is completely unsurprising is the top-performing first responder procedural’s Season 9 renewal. Two years after a move to the network from its original home, Fox, the drama has remained a first-rate series both with live viewing on broadcast television and with next-day watching on streamer Hulu.
The news comes after the announcement of a new spinoff series following the cancellation of offshoot 9-1-1: Lone Star, which starred Rob Lowe and spanned five seasons. The long-gestating 9-1-1: Nashville got a straight-to-series order in February and is looking to join ABC’s broadcast lineup this fall, reuniting many of the creatives behind 9-1-1, including franchise co-creators Ryan Murphy and Tim Minear, as well as 9-1-1: Lone Star showrunner Rashad Raisani. The offshoot stars Chris O’Donnell as Captain Don Sharpe, a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider who runs Nashville’s busiest firehouse with his beloved son. Though he’s a devoted family man, he has his secrets.
Originally premiering on Fox in 2018, 9-1-1 was canceled after six seasons and soon saved by Disney-owned ABC. Since then, the 20th Television series’ characters have seen disasters of epic proportions, including Season 8’s opener “Beenado,” a crash-landing airplane, Maddie’s near-death experience and a crossover with network cousin Doctor Odyssey. But things came to a devastating conclusion with the death of main character Bobby Nash (Peter Krause).
Here’s everything to know about 9-1-1 Season 9.
Who is in the 9-1-1 Season 9 cast?
9-1-1 was rocked to the core with the death of Peter Krause’s Bobby Nash. That said, here are the remaining members of the main cast going into Season 9.
Angela Bassett as Athena Grant-Nash
The show’s lead and a field sergeant for the Los Angeles Police Department, Athena is married to Bobby. This season, she’s added amateur pilot to her impressive rank title.
Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie Buckley
Maddie works as a 9-1-1 dispatcher and is married to Chim. This season was a trying one for her, as she was kidnapped by Abigail Spencer’s duplicitous (and murderous) Detective Amber Braeburn, who slashed her throat and temporarily robbed her of her ability to speak.
Oliver Stark as Buck
A member of the 118 and perpetual mess, Buck is Maddie’s brother. He’s since broken up with his first boyfriend, Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.), and is sorting through his feelings.
Kenneth Choi as Chimney
The wisecracking Chim is a member of the 118 and Maddie’s husband. The couple is expecting a second child.
Aisha Hinds as Hen Wilson
Formerly the 118’s interim captain, Hen is married to recurring character Karen (Tracie Thoms). This season, the actress also made her directorial debut.
