Sarah’s sipping coffee in the pub when Rachel runs over and hugs her, having just shown up with Brady. She asks where Xander is, but Sarah just tells Rachel he’s busy. Father and daughter sit, then Rachel asks if she can go help Mr. Brady with breakfast. Brady gives the OK, and Sarah takes the moment after she’s gone to ask what’s going on.
Brady tells her, with the condition that she not say anything. Sarah’s horrified that Rachel saw Johnny threaten EJ. Kids need safety and stability, she says, and Brady knows they aren’t just talking about Rachel.
Nope. Sarah’s second guessing the decisions she’s made for Victoria. But Brady assures her that Xander would never hurt his daughter. The people he loves the most are the ones who get hurt, she says.
Brady tells her that if he and Kristen can put aside their animosity for Rachel, so can Sarah and Xander. Sarah’s not so sure, but Brady tells her not to make the same mistakes he and Kristen did getting to this point.
Rachel returns, then runs off again for more syrup, and Sarah thanks Brady for letting her open up. “That’s what friends are for, right?” Talk turns to video games when Rachel comes back and Sarah waxes on about Ms. Pacman and arcades. She even has one of the machines that Xander bought her. Sarah then tells Rachel she can visit her at the hospital anytime. She’s her friend.
Xander slinks into the Kiriakis mansion with a stuffed 4th of July dog for Victoria, where Maggie tells him his daughter is deathly afraid of dogs. He wants to see Victoria, but Maggie refuses. Victoria’s sleeping, and she’s not waking her up.
Fine, but Xander will wait. Also, he stops Maggie as she walks off, they need to “get a few things straight…” He takes Maggie to task for turning her back on Titan and Victor’s legacy with the hospital vote. Maggie crosses her arms and tells her she hates his actions, not him. She loved Victor too much to fully give up on him. But, “You will never question my loyalty to Victor or his legacy ever again.”
Xander asks what that means. “I voted for you, you jackass.” Xander humbly apologizes, but Maggie still snaps at him that it doesn’t change anything. He still beat Philip (Xander denies it) and Victoria still needs a stable home life.
When he mentions she will when he gets full custody, Maggie scoffs in his face and said no judge would do that. Xander happily throws Sarah’s lies at Maggie, thrilling in knocking her off her pedestal.
Maggie tells him in no uncertain terms that he needs to come up with a compromise. For Victoria’s sake. Maggie insists they both love each other, and if it’s true, Xander couldn’t possibly take Victoria away from her mom. Victoria wakes up and Xander goes up to see her after grabbing Maggie’s hand and thanking her.
Sophia rolls around in bed, dreaming of her baby’s birth before she wakes with a start. She gets on the phone with her mom, reassuring her she’s fine, she just needs sleep. “Yeah, the baby’s still kicking a lot.”
She hangs up and Melinda calls. “Just tell me wherever you want to meet and I’ll be there.”
Tate finds Holly in the square and asks her on a date, “right here, right now.” They take a seat at a table and talk about starting over, but she warns him that she’ll probably be in France in a few months. He wants to try, so they agree to take it one step at a time. First off, going on a date. They hold hands, which is when Sophia sees them.
They try planning out a date, but Holly’s going to be gone the next few nights with Ari on Senior Lake Week. And Tate can’t go along this close to Sophia’s due date. He doesn’t want to miss his only chance to meet the baby. But he decides that first births can take forever, and he’ll have his phone on him, so he can go out of town for a bit!
Sophia gets to the park, where Melinda hugs her and assures her that she’s got her. And anything she tells her is confidential — but she needs to know everything. Sophia had the baby alone in her room after watching a YouTube video. “I don’t know if I should be impressed or horrified,” Melinda sighs.
She then asks Sophia if she’s sure she wants to go through with leaving the baby at the fire station, and the teen tearfully tells her she is. Melinda wants to take her to the doctor, but Sophia’s horrified at the thought of Tate and her mom finding out what happened.
They’ll go to a clinic outside of town, Melinda assures her, then says she has a plan for what’s next. She even offers to cover the cost. Why, Sophia asks. “Because I was you.”
Leo’s trying to sing the baby to sleep in the Hernandez kitchen, but nothing’s working. Until he begs. Javi gets home with baby supplies, which has Leo worried about how long they’re keeping the newborn. Only until social services finds him a home, Javi reassures him.
He then asks Leo if he’s OK with this, and Leo says he is. He’s good with babies, actually. He delivered Nicole’s baby and got experience babysitting. But he’s not sure he can give the baby a good start. He’s got a lot of childhood trauma he’s worried about. Javi reassures Leo that he’s warm and caring.
Plus, Leo realizes, they won’t be with him long. Well… Javi admits that he told the case worker he’d get foster credential if they needed to watch the baby longer. Leo’s taken aback, but rolls with it. He’s just proud of Javi.
They realize they need a name and settle on “Tesoro” — “treasure” in Spanish.
Sarah and Xander run into each other in the square, where he’s carrying the dog and explains why he has it — and that he had a lovely visit with Victoria. “Good,” Sarah says, assuring him Victoria’s fear likely won’t last. Still, he’ll find a teddy bear instead, and they agree their daughter’s happiness is all that matters.
More: Can Sarah and Xander avoid all-out war?
Holly gets home and happily tells Maggie that she and Tate are getting back together. Maggie’s happy, but wants her to be prepared for the emotional rollercoaster when Sophia’s baby comes. Their bond may never be completely broken.
Javi thanks Leo for being onboard with this, then Leo realizes the baby needs a diaper change. And he’s a pro, thanks to his time with Jude. He heads off to the other room and Javi looks at his phone at a picture of him holding a baby.
Brady and Rachel get home, where Tate teases them about being sleepy. Rachel agrees to a short nap before the parade, and when she’s gone, Brady asks Tate how he’s feeling with the big day approaching. Scared, sad, excited — everywhere. And guilty because he and Holly are getting back together.
Alone in her room, Sophia psychs herself up and lifts her shirt revealing a pregnancy pad.
