Aaron Judge didn’t mince words Tuesday night after yet another brutal Yankees’ loss. With the 4-3 loss in 11 innings to the Reds, the Bronx Bombers have dropped the series and lost nine of their last 12 games.
“We got to play better. That’s it,” Judge told reporters in the postgame clubhouse. “We’re not playing that great, but we got to learn from it. We got to move on. We got to turn the page. We got to get to the next one.”
Despite the loss, Judge emphasized belief in his team’s resilience.
“No, we got a lot of winners in this clubhouse,” he added. “You guys know to move on from tough stretches. And you know, we’ve done that before.”
Judge admitted the current skid is a challenge, but also put responsibility squarely on the players’ shoulders.
“Like I said, you guys asked us the same question last year, and no, we got to figure it out. It’s on us. We got to, we got to figure it out.”
The Yankees' June slump has been hard to ignore.
They've dropped 12 of their last 18 games and are 10–12 this month. As their once formidable offense went quiet, they suffered through a six-game losing streak that included three straight shutouts. That was historically bad, something that hadn’t happened in over a century.
The Yankees' once-comfortable lead in the AL East is now barely holding at a game. Judge has seen June skids before, and he is not ready to panic.
It's quite simple, as the captain sees it. The Yankees have to play better - and soon.
