Aaron Rodgers Named 'Plan A' for AFC Playoff Contender

With the free agency signing period set to begin on Wednesday, there's still no telling which team will end up with 41-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

He won't be viewed as a long-term solution for anybody considering his age, but after completing 368-of-584 passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, he's still viewed as a viable starting option for several teams.

That's why, in an article for Fox Sports, Ralph Vacchiano labels Rodgers as "plan A" for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025.

"A great argument can be made that a strong quarterback makes them a Super Bowl contender again," he wrote. "That makes Aaron Rodgers a real intriguing candidate. He's a risk at age 41 and with his injury issues, but he might have one last career push in him in a better situation than he was in with the Jets. The Steelers could take a one-year bet on him knowing that the playoffs, and perhaps a deep run, could be the prize."

However, his numbers were not that much better than those of the Steelers' main starters, Russell Wilson (11 starts) and Justin Fields (six starts), who combined to complete 320-of-497 passes for 3,588 yards, 21 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

They're both set to hit free agency this year and after Pittsburgh suffered its fourth straight wild-card round loss since 2020, Rodgers could possibly be the spark to help get past the hump.

At the very least, Rodgers could come in and give a fresh perspective to a Steelers' offense that wasn't all too impressive in 2024, ranking 23rd in total yards per game and 16th in points per game.
