The New York Jets front office has a host of decisions that must be made this offseason and they are ones that they must get right.
Of course, getting a new head coach and general manager is at the top of the list. Once those two positions are filled, the next phase of the offseason can commence.
Part of that next phase is figuring out what to do with Aaron Rodgers.
The aging quarterback, who will be a year removed from his Achilles injury, will be taking some time away from football this offseason to decide whether he wants to play in 2025.
For ESPN, whoever the Jets hire as general manager, their first port of call is to figure out what to do with No. 8.
"Priority No. 1 for the GM and his new coach will be figuring out the Rodgers riddle," ESPN writes. "His cap charge ($23.5 million) is manageable, but this goes beyond money. Does the new regime want to begin its program with a 41-year-old quarterback accustomed to being the focal point of everything?"
Granted, there are benefits to keeping Rodgers around, given he's been with the franchise for the last two seasons, but after such a failed year, is it productive to keep him around?
The new general manager must work out that. ESPN also states that Rodgers' cap hit, if released or retired, is $49 million. Is that alone enough to warrant his return?
Of course, this is all predicated on Rodgers wanting to play in 2025, and so far, we don't have any real indication of which way he is leaning.
But until a new head coach and general manager are hired, Rodgers' future, like many others, remains in limbo.
