Montreal Canadiens prospect Aatos Koivu recently scored his first professional goal for TPS in Liiga.
The Montreal Canadiens prospect Aatos Koivu scored his first professional goal on Saturday, picking up TPS' first tally en route to a 4-1 victory over Ässät in Liiga.
Koivu, a third-round pick (70th overall) from the 2024 Draft, is skating with TPS just like his father, Saku, did over 30 years ago.
As fans remember, Saku was captain of the Canadiens from 1999 to 2009. During his tenure, Aatos was born in Turku, Finland, in 2006.
The Canadiens hope Aatos follows his dad's path to the NHL since Saku played three seasons with TPS before coming to North America.
Unlike one of Montreal's other top prospects, Ivan Demidov, Koivu doesn't see as much ice and rarely reaches double digits. His season high thus far is 14:06, followed by 11:17 and 12:17, averaging just 9:31 a game.
The 18-year-old had an assist in the season's first contest, followed by another helper in game three. His lamplighter on Saturday snapped a five-game pointless streak.
TPS returns to action after a week off, taking on Kärpät on October 5.
