It may be hard to look up to your rival, but the Rangers should take some lessons from the Panthers.

The New York Rangers could learn a lot from their playoff loss last year to the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference Final.

It’s heartbreaking to come two games short of a trip to the Stanley Cup Final, but it builds character.

Adam Fox used the Panthers’ path to the Stanley Cup as a blueprint of what the Rangers should follow.

“Look at Florida last year they lost in the Cup Final, they learned some things,” Fox said. “Learned about winning those tight games, those 2-1 games, hold a lead and be able to protect a lead late. I think those are things that you build on and gain that confidence going into the next year.”

There’s no doubt that the Rangers had an incredible season, winning the Presidents’ Trophy and making it all the way to the Eastern Conference Final.

However the Panthers had something that the Rangers just couldn’t match and that was hard-nosed playoff and championship caliber hockey.

From the start of the series, the Panthers beat up New York physically, which was the leading factor in Florida’s eventual victory.

In order to reach the mountain top, losing and learning from it is almost a necessity. It’s clear the Rangers lost to a team that was just more equipped and prepared to win a championship.

New York has a Stanley Cup caliber roster in terms of talent and now it’s about how strong they are mentally and what the team will do in response to their loss against Florida.
