With news of Las Vegas Raiders left tackle Kolton Miller holding out of voluntary workouts on Wednesday, it is unsurprising to see trade rumors already starting to form.
Miller is currently seeking a contract extension, which was to be expected from a player who graded out as the 14th-best tackle in the NFL, per Pro Football Focus. The team had not yet started extension talks with Miller when the first reports came out, but that situation is expected to change shortly, if it has not already behind closed doors. Until the issue gets resolved, however, expect interested teams to potentially press the issue, offering what they can to bring a known quantity like Miller into their lineup.
One AFC team’s fanbase is already putting on pressure to bring Miller over to their side for 2025.
A desperate need for offensive linemen could allow the Raiders to take advantage of a rebuilding team.
The New England Patriots held one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL last season and, despite being in position to draft an offensive tackle such as LSU’s Will Campbell or Missouri’s Armand Membou with the fourth overall pick, they could target Miller if they prefer to go with a sure thing.
“The Patriots are clearly in need of a massive upgrade at left tackle, and a player like Miller would give them an experienced veteran to serve as the blindside protector for second-year quarterback Drake Maye,” wrote Patriots Wire’s Jordy McElroy. “A trade makes all of the sense in the world for New England.”
A Miller trade would likely give the Raiders at least a Day Two pick, which could help them target other needs on their roster. In fact, fans are already beginning to come up with trade packages to get Miller over to Foxborough.
While trading Miller means opening a hole at left tackle, the Raiders could easily plug it with Campbell or Membou with the sixth overall selection. Raiders general manager John Spytek has used this strategy before, when his former team in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected right tackle Tristan Wirfs in 2020. Add to that mix the connection between Raiders minority owner Tom Brady and new Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, and Miller to New England begins to add up.
The Raiders find themselves embroiled in an interesting storyline just a week before the draft.
