Amber Portwood Says Her ‘Teen Mom’ Co-Stars Maci Bookout & Catelynn Lowell “Turned On Her” For Money

The longtime friendships Amber Portwood had with her Teen Mom co-stars Maci Bookout and Catelynn Lowell are apparently over.

Amber— who has been ranting on TikTok Live for the bulk majority of the last few days— was asked by a fan on TikTok Live on Monday for a status update on her relationship with Maci and Cate. It was then that the couch enthusiast revealed that her former friends are no longer loyal to her.

“You guys, they turned on me, too,” Amber said of Maci and Catelynn. “For money…they turned on me for money.”

As The Ashley previously reported, Amber flipped off Maci and Catelynn during a Live in March, denying that the girls have been good friends to her, as one fan stated. The next day, Amber was back on Live, apologizing to her friends for giving them the double bird salute. During her apology, Amber explained that she had been mad at Maci and Catelynn because they knew that Amber’s daughter, Leah, wanted to be adopted by stepmom Kristina Shirley, and the girls didn’t tell her. Maci and Catelynn had spoken to Leah’s dad, Gary, on-camera about the situation, making Amber feel like Cate and Maci were keeping it a secret from her.

However, once Amber spoke to Cate, she said she gained a different perspective on the situation, with Cate insisting that she thought Gary had told Amber.

“I’m over here riding therapy horses and trying to raise these Not-Carlys. I don’t have time for this crap.”

“ … Maci and Catelynn had came into town to see me [and] a certain person [Gary] had lied to them about what I knew, which was a really horrific situation, and somebody told them that I knew about this horrific situation, so they thought to not bring it up to me because they thought it was going to hurt me … ,” she said at the time. “…“They were lied to and I never knew that…So, I’m going to say right now, Cate and Maci, I’m so sorry, darlings, for flipping you off and doing that stuff. I did not know that you guys were lied to. I thought you were keeping a secret from me, and to be honest, I should’ve known better.”

In April, Amber did not mention Maci or Catelynn much, except to say that she thought they were still mad at her for what she did.

On Monday, however, Amber revealed that the girls are no longer her friends, because they chose “money” (and presumably the show) over their friendship.

“And I ain’t trying to find out what it’s like to have to clock in at a 9-to-5 job, OK?”

“They’re gonna follow the leader. I’m not a follower. I guess that’s the difference, right? I’m not a follower,” Amber said of Cate and Maci. “Have you guys not noticed that? For all you haters, I’m not a f**king follower. I don’t follow money. I don’t do that, sorry. I was actually dedicated to this show. Very dedicated. I really wanted to help people. And I did, and I’m still going to.”

In regard to Amber’s claim that Maci and Cate chose money over their friendship, Amber may be referring to the fact that Maci and Catelynn filmed a scene with Leah back in January in which they discussed Leah’s strained relationship with Amber. The scene— which aired during last week’s episode— did not show Maci and Cate bashing Amber; however, Amber may feel like the girls were convinced by production to film with Leah, therefore choosing the show — and money— over their loyalty to Amber. (This is The Ashley’s best guess; however, Amber did not confirm it.)

“That’s why I trust my puppets and not people! They’d never do me like this!”

During the very long Live, Amber mentioned People magazine— which recently published an article about the cast of ‘Teen Mom’ celebrating the franchise’s 16th anniversary. While Gary and Leah participated in the photoshoot and press day (as did Maci and Cate), Amber was left out.

People magazine, why? Why? We worked so much together, so many friends,” Amber said (although she didn’t reveal if that comment was aimed at the magazine or at the ‘Teen Mom’ cast members who participated in the shoot.)

As of press time, Maci and Catelynn have not responded to Amber’s latest comments.
