Amber Portwood’s relationship with her daughter Leah is only getting worse, especially after Leah revealed that she wants to be adopted by her stepmother, Kristina.
Amber recently admitted that this confession kept her in bed for “four months.” This led to an emotional conversation with her mother, Tonya, whom Amber once had an estranged relationship with.
During the latest episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, Amber Portwood had an emotional conversation with her mom Tonya after discovering that her daughter wants to be adopted by her stepmother, Kristina.
Leah has been open about her desire to be adopted by Kristina and even details her rocky relationship with Amber from time to time.
Nonetheless, this has taken a huge hit to Amber’s mental health.
The mother of two revealed that she just needed her own mother during this moment.
"I thought I was already dark and deep in a hole from what happened to me, from the incident in North Carolina, and him leaving me in the mountains," Amber said during a confessional.
She added, "When I found out about my daughter saying that she wanted to be adopted, it took over everything … I was really just in bed for over four months. But I just realized that I truly just needed my mommy."
Amber has had her own strained relationship with Tonya in the past, but she calls her mother for some advice.
"I just woke up, and I was just like hopeless, just feeling like hopeless and just like, 'F*ck, why am I awake?'” Amber revealed to her mother.
Tonya questioned if Amber was taking her medication.
The MTV star got candid about her own rocky relationship with Tonya.
"My relationship with my mom when I was around 16 was a little tumultuous," she said.
Amber recalled, "Me and my mom were fighting so bad, like I had to leave the house and live with my father. I’ve seen my mom three times, these last few weeks, when I hadn't seen her almost a year."
Later in the episode, Amber and Tonya met up for lunch.
Amber told her mom that when she woke up that morning all she wanted to do was call her mother.
"I've always been there for you. You know that you always get my baby, no matter how old you are. So, no matter what it is, I'm still trying to understand what you're going through," Tonya responded.
Tonya then drew concern for Amber’s mental health and noted that the doctors should have her “medications straightened out by now.”
"I just don't see you progressing,” Tonya admitted.
Amber replied, “What has gone on too long, mama? There's no cure."

Amber then explained her fear about losing a relationship with Leah for good.
"She'll come around when she's ready," Tonya said.
Amber concluded during a confessional, "I see how my relationship with my mom was completely tumultuous, and today I'm with my mom. I love my mom so much. So, this is why I have hope with Leah. It's gonna get better. It's gonna take me a little while."
