American Idol season 23 winner Jamal Roberts will be one of the opening acts for two of music's biggest superstars when they head out on the road this fall.
In an Instagram post, Jamal announced that he'll be one of the opening acts for R&B singers Brandy and Monica on their The Boy Is Mine tour this fall. In addition to Jamal, Kelly Rowland and Muni Long are opening for the tour, which begins on October 16 in Cincinatti, Ohio, and ends on December 7 in Houston, Texas.
In the caption of his post, Jamal wrote, "The things God is doing in my life. Hmmmmm and new music is on the way. Sit tight. Oh and I love y'all. #YourFavoriteNephew #yourfavoritecousin #THEAmericanIdol."

Brandy and Monica are both music legends, so it's very impressive that Jamal is already part of such a major tour. In the ABC era of American Idol, none of the winners--Maddie Poppe, Laine Hardy, Just Sam, Chayce Beckham, Noah Thompson, Iam Tongi, and Abi Carter--have achieved superstardom at the level of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, and many of them have struggled after the show.

Jamal will surely gain many new fans when people see him perform live for the first time.
I've been waiting a long time for American Idol to have another breakout star, and I think that Jamal could be that person. He has a magical star quality, and he shines on stage. I hope that Brandy and Monica's tour is just the beginning of a long music career for Jamal, and that, someday, new artists will be honored to open for him on his own headlining tour.
