RHOA's Angela Oakley declared husband Charles Oakley was "being petty" as they spent their anniversary apart.
When Angela Oakley and Charles Oakley's eight-year wedding anniversary fell in the middle of The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 16's cast trip to Grenada, the couple's long-distance celebration attempt highlighted some of the issues in their marriage.
As seen in Episode 14, Angela kicked off her day on the Caribbean island by trying to call Charles, to no avail. "He was too busy to talk to me because he was cooking for our daughter," the mother of four explained in a confessional. "But, yeah, I think he misses me. We are falling in love with each other again every single day."
When she could still only reach her husband's voicemail, however, Angela vented, "I can't stand him."
Even so, she later shared with her RHOA castmates, "I'm just happy that we made it to [our] eight-year wedding anniversary," before vowing "to get his ass on the phone" when they returned to the hotel.
Once Angela finally connected with Charles via FaceTime, their conversation wasn't exactly a romantic one, with the retired NBA star seeming to only half-heartedly reply, "OK," to most of her commentary, including how much it "matters" that this was the first anniversary they spent apart and that she would have rather been with him than on the Grenada trip.
"He's not even paying attention," Angela declared in a producer interview. "And that irritates me 'cause I want to kiki, I want to talk. Like, I want to tell him how my day went. And he’s just like, 'Whatever. OK.'"
Angela Oakley theorizes why Charles Oakley was "being petty" on their anniversary
Undeterred, Angela still tried to prod Charles into helping give her "some mojo" ahead of the evening's cast dinner and meet-and-greet with Grenada's prime minister, the honorable Dickon Mitchell. The message he left her with before they ended their anniversary call: "Don't get into no scuffle with no one."
Angela had a theory about Charles' aloof attitude, though. "I believe my husband is being petty right now because it's our anniversary, and typically, what comes with anniversaries is a little bedroom action," she theorized in RHOA's June 8 episode. "And tonight, there will be no bedroom action because I'm in Grenada."
Angela Oakley opens up about Charles Oakley not wearing his wedding ring
While the women speculated about the Grenadian prime minister's relationship status, Angela revealed that Charles does not wear his wedding ring, something she cited as a point of contention between them
"Through therapy, I expressed to him that's a little thing that mattered to me," she told the group, adding that she would address the topic in their next couple's session.
In The Real Housewives of Atlanta After Show video above, she shared more about Charles not wearing his ring.
"It was an issue when it was an issue, because my idea of marriage is wedding ring, I'm taken, this is who I'm with. I just feel like it's a statement of I'm married. His idea of a wedding ring is, 'Oh, I'm wearing gold today, the silver ring [doesn't] match.'"
"He doesn't wear it," she continued. "He's lost so many of them. So now, it's just not even a conversation anymore because we have come through more than that."
Angela Oakley details past issues with Charles Oakley
Angela previously opened up about her and Charles being in therapy earlier in Season 16, divulging that they spend $1,200 per month, after her husband estimated the monthly cost to be closer to $3,000.
"The secret for loving a man like Charles is just letting him be who he is," she said, at the time. "Charles and I sometimes [can] get in our own heads, and he won't hear me, I won't hear him. And through therapy, I realized I wanted him to change. Then, I realized that I have flaws too."
On another recent episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta After Show, Angela also detailed a brief separation amid Charles' "instances of infidelity" early in their marriage. "Baby, [it was] the fight of my life," she emphasized, after also debunking rumors that her husband had a "secret baby" with another woman.
