I’ve said it multiple times, but the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s Angie Katsanevas is the franchise’s shining star. Angie was first introduced as a ‘friend of.’ The hairstylist has made her way up the ladder to now being the center snowflake. Every week, I tune in to support Angie. What can I say? This woman is my MVP.
The ice queen cometh to the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City
I think Real Housewives of Salt Lake City fans often forget that Angie didn’t make the cut for Season 1. Instead, they went with heavy hitter Jen Shah. Now, there is no denying that Jen served up the drama, but Angie is doing her fair share of pot stirring, too. She made her first appearance as a simple guest in Season 2. And finally debuted as a ‘friend of ‘for Season 3. Her energy was so well received that she was allowed to sit on the reunion couch for Season 4. Now, as Season 5 comes to the halfway point, it has been revealed that she will be sitting right next to Andy Cohen for the Season 5 reunion. The rate of ascension for Angie needs to be a masterclass and studied for Real Housewives to come.
Angie’s honey-badger attitude has been on my radar since day one. This week’s episode once again proved to me why. She is the queen of asking for forgiveness after the fact. Bronwyn Newport desperately wanted an apology after being told to “shut the f*ck up” at least 75 times last week. But Ang thought better. And frankly, B, sometimes people will tell you to shut your yap as the sentiment will be warranted.
Angie Katsanevas is a sweet soul
Even though Angie can often be seen as an instigator, she has a mothering side that resonates with her true friends. This last episode showed Angie using kid gloves when talking to Mary Cosby. Even though the preacher didn’t want to talk about the family struggles, Angie was a great sounding board and allowed her friend to feel safe while in a very vulnerable spot. Their friendship has come a long way. Let’s not forget that Mary once couldn’t stand Angie. She often was the butt of Mary’s cruel remarks. But Angie persevered. Angie has been extremely open about the loss of her mother. She has allowed cameras to film her conversations with her father as she expressed not only her grief but also her anger at having lost her mother at such a young age.
Even though she verbally eviscerated Britani Bateman when she learned the actress was crying, Angie’s entire demeanor changed. Honestly, the fight was something most people would have just laughed off. But Britani took the attacks seriously, and Angie almost saw that she had crossed a line. The realization that she had hit below the belt seemed to cause the mother of one to pause and reflect. That was until Meredith Marks became involved and subsequently kicked her out of the party.
Angie Katsanevas is serving up the ladies on a silver platter
A recent RHOSLC episode showed Angie being a bit of a mean girl, but honestly, I’m okay with it. It might be an unpopular opinion, but I often feel that Angie has been overlooked and used by the other women. So, I see most of her outbursts as her defense mechanism. Now, Britani is a bit of a wet blanket, and while I don’t think she needed to be called out for her possible multiple boyfriends, Angie tossed out the accusations with such style I couldn’t help but be impressed. The moment Angie spewed her insults this week, which included, “I don’t look like I have a high body count, and I don’t wear my hair like I have a high body count. It looks a little porn-ish.” I mean, even Mary gagged at the slander.
I almost spat out my wine as Angie quipped, “Take your little Bumpa and walk away.” The fact that Angie had no problems shaming Britani’s hair was a Grade-A performance. Even Angie’s remark to Todd Bradley, noting he was “the better half,” reeked of Real Housewives history. I was transported back to the time Carole Radziwill told Harry Dubin she understood why he had divorced Aviva Drescher. It was pure gold. Whatever happens for Season 6, one thing is for sure: Bravo needs to give this woman a raise and ensure that she returns as the center snowflake.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City airs on Wednesdays on Bravo.
