Anthony Richardson, Jonathan Taylor Injured in Win
Colts star running back Jonathan Taylor and franchise quarterback Anthony Richardson were both injured in a 27-24 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday.
Richardson got hurt early on in the game, injuring his hip in the first quarter. After missing one play on the sideline, he tried to come back in but was unable to play after taking a hit and going back to the locker room.
Richardson started off the game going 3/4 with 71 yards and an additional three carries for 24 yards. Joe Flacco filled in for the young quarterback, and was able to close out the game and lead the Colts to their second win of the season.
Flacco completed 16 of his 26 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns. He has had plenty of experience against Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers, so coming in to relieve Richardson against a familiar enemy may have helped him out.
Michael Pittman and Josh Downs both had big roles in helping the veteran play his first game in a Colts uniform. Pittman hauled in six catches for 113 yards, while Downs caught eight balls for 82 yards and a touchdown. These were their best games of the season so far, and both receivers will hope to build off these games in the future.
Taylor’s injury didn't come until late in the game, when he got rolled up on and suffered an ankle injury. Despite the injury, he was still productive for the Colts and played a big role in the win. He rushed 21 times for 88 yards and a touchdown. He also had 20 receiving yards, giving him over 100 total yards from scrimmage.
Trey Sermon filled in for Taylor, but did not do much with the limited touches he got. Sermon rushed for only eight yards on five carries, a 1.6 yard average.
Despite losing their best offensive players, Indianapolis was able to hand Pittsburgh their first loss of the season. The Colts will hope that both of the injuries are not too serious, and that they will not miss much time. Indianapolis travels to Jacksonville for an important AFC South matchup next sunday, and will hope to improve to 3-2.
