Anthony Stolarz is ready to push the other goaltenders who could see games with the Maple Leafs this season.

The 30-year-old goaltender signed a two-year, $5 million contract with Toronto on July 1 after coming off a huge season with the Florida Panthers, where he not only led the NHL in regular season save percentage (.925) but won a Stanley Cup in the process.

Stolarz is eager to prove himself in Toronto in many ways, including possibly winning the team's fantasy football league where he's already 2-0.

"It just gives you something to talk about, and you're just going around just trying to get to know everyone on an individual basis," Stolarz said on Monday morning at the Maple Leafs' annual charity golf tournament.

He's familiar with several players in the organization already, being teammates with Steven Lorentz and Oliver Ekman-Larsson in Florida, Simon Benoit and Jani Hakanpaa with the AHL's San Diego Gulls, and Max Domi and Mitch Marner with the OHL's London Knights.

"I kind of have a good feel of the room, so just being able to know some guys going in makes the transition a lot easier," Stolarz added.

On the ice, though, the goaltender of 108 NHL games is enthusiastic about his goaltending counterparts in Toronto with Joseph Woll and Matt Murray. Stolarz said on Monday that he's already skated with both goalies and is excited to push them this season.

"Woller and I have the same agent, so my agent kind of gave me a little rundown on him going in and he seems like a super nice guy, and I'm looking forward to working with him," he said. And Mur, it's been a lot of fun just kind of talking to him, getting to know him, pick their brain on certain goalie stuff, and on the ice, it's obviously gonna be a battle.

"You wanna go out there, you wanna push each other. And it's tough as a goalie, there's only one spot one guy can play. So at the end of the day, you just wanna go out there, push each other, and that's the only way to make the team better."

Stolarz signed with Toronto while in Florida after the Stanley Cup-winning festivities. It was a quick turnaround for the goaltender who says he took a week off before getting right back into training on July 10.

"I had a few weddings this summer. And then by the time you knew it was August, and we're starting to ramp it up, and I started looking forward to camp here."

When he arrived in Toronto earlier this month, Stolarz said he had a few people — mainly staff members — in the Maple Leafs organization ask him about winning the Stanley Cup and what it was like.

His response to those asking was no different than his answer to working with his goaltending partners, Woll and Murray: It's going to be a battle.

"I keep telling them that let's do it again, run it back this year."
