Tolú Ekundare’s journey on Season Two of Netflix’s “Perfect Match” started out rough, but by the series finale, the reality television star was happy and possibly in love.
The contestant, who originally appeared on “The Trust: A Game of Greed,” entered the villa in Episode One and immediately brought some much-needed vibrancy to the show. She first coupled up with Izzy Zapata (“Love Is Blind” Season Five) but met Dom Gabriel (“The Mole” and “Perfect Match” Season One) on a blind date in Episode Two.
Their potential romance fizzled out quickly. (Tolú didn’t hold back when explaining to TODAY.com why her connection with Dom didn’t work.) She wasn’t single for long though, as Chris Hahn (“Dated and Related”), whom she had developed a strong friendship with, admitted he had feelings for her.
They matched in Episode Five and were still going steady at the start of the season finale. Chris and Tolú faced some obstacles along the way and she questioned if he was genuine and actually interested in her. By the finale, it seems she found the answers she was looking for.
So did Chris and Tolú end the show together? Read on to learn more about what happened in the “Perfect Match” Season Two finale and if the couple are still together today.
What happened with Chris and Tolú in the ‘Perfect Match’ Season 2 finale?
Episode 10 of “Perfect Match” began with all the remaining couples competing in their final compatibility challenge: “Get Over It.”
Each pair has to answer questions correctly about their partner and the winning couple receives the most planks, giving them a head start on crossing a suspended bridge. Tolú and Chris nail the first part of the challenge and secure the win in a split-second victory over Alara Taneri and Stevan Ditter.
As the winners, they are awarded a date to a beer spa. There, they speak about their relationship and how much they understand each other.
Back at the villa, Chris and Tolú match again and prepare for their final date. The pair go horseback riding and discuss navigating a long-distance relationship given that he resides in California and she lives in Texas.
He gushes that he didn’t think he would find something as genuine as the connection he built with Tolú. He says he wants to make their relationship work outside of the show. She becomes emotional as she praises him for making her feel “wanted and beautiful.”
Although they are convinced they found their perfect matches, their fellow cast members aren’t so sure. They are grilled by the eliminated contestants at the final meeting.
Chris says he found all the qualities he was looking for in Tolú and that they “fell in love with each other.” She points out that their romantic connection grew “organically” from a platonic friendship. Tolú also reveals that she considered leaving the show before realizing her feelings for Chris.
Dominique Defoe doubts Chris and brings up his inconsistencies. Trevor Sova and Melinda Melrose are skeptical, as well. Trevor then calls out Chris for saying he wants to “stay in contact” with Tolú instead of being more confident and committed.
Are Chris and Tolú from ‘Perfect Match’ still together?
After all the contestants, including the final five couples, cast their votes for the winner of “Perfect Match” Season Two, Chris and Tolú learn that they were not the most voted couple. Find out who won Season Two here.
Although the show adds updates about a couple of contestants at the end, the finale does not mention where Chris and Tolú stand today.
Chris uploaded a video to Instagram June 15 that showed him using a filter that randomly selected one of the Season Two contestants as his perfect match. When the filter happened to land on Tolú, Chris said, “Ooh there she is! Oh, you know we’re winning this baby. We got this!”
In the caption, he added, “Axel Stone + Tolu = Perfect Match,” referring to himself using his former entertainer name.
Ahead of the finale, Chris and Tolú both uploaded the same video of them attending a Netflix event together on Instagram June 20. In the clip, they re-create the moment from the show when couples place a “Do Not Disturb” sign on their door and enter their private suite together.
But, it seems the two were just being civil for the sake of social media.
"We didn't end off on the best terms," Chris told Tudum. "We were definitely a perfect match. So, like, that was unfortunate how things kind of ended."
He said Tolú heard "negative feedback" about him that impacted their relationship. Chris added that she didn't trust him.
He also mentioned long distance as a reason they couldn't make their relationship work.
When asked about their relationship, Tolú simply laughed and responded, "What relationship?"
"I feel like the curtains opened and, you know, you saw the man behind the curtain," she said. "I didn't like the man behind the curtain."
So, she said, she decided to stay away from him. She doesn't appear to have any desire to revisit those romantic feelings.
She said Chris "fumbled" their connection.
"And I hate that for you, but I love that for me," she concluded.
