As CapFriendly.com Shuts Down, Here's How to Get New and Old Salary Cap Information on the Maple Leafs and other NHL Teams

While PuckPedia.com remains a go-to for current salary cap information, what about all that old data? It still lives.

CapFriendly.com is no longer operational to the public.

Visiting the website now displays a thank you message to the supporters and fans of the salary-cap management page.

For a little while, there was a little sense of hope that maybe it may stay alive as the days passed in July and the site information was still listed, but after the Washington Capitals closed on their sale to the owners of the website, the information is no longer visibly accessible.

So now that CapFriendly.com no longer displays new information where do you turn? The best option is PuckPedia.com.

In the days it was reported that CapFriendly was sold to the Caps, PuckPedia has made several improvements to its layout and cap tools for tracking.

Checking out the Leafs page, you can already see tolls that have been added that weren't there before, like how many draft picks they have. According to the site, the Leafs have $180,333 in cap space remaining. However, the number doesn't account for positions. Nine defensemen are included in that cap hit and eight is the most they'd be expected to carry to begin the season. That's just one example.

UPDATE: PuckPedia has since updated it to reflect eight defencemen with $955,333 in cap space remaining.

What about the old CapFriendly data, how do I access that?

The wonderful thing about the internet is nothing dies. Thanks to the archives, you can still access old CapFriendly information if you're looking to find out things like which GM signed a player's contract.

If you head to the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine, I can put the CapFriendly.com domain in and it will take you to a version of the site as recent as a few days ago.

From there,  I click the July 7 snapshot and you'll get the cached version of the site.

Clicking on any link on the page will give you a cached version. So clicking on the Toronto Maple Leafs page will bring up their info as follows:

We are lucky to have steady data available and we understand that it can be difficult to transpose salary cap information and how it pertains to the Leafs we at The Hockey News will strive to provide context and accurate date to keep track of things.
