This Thursday, Atlanta Falcons rookies and veterans report for the 2025 NFL training camp in Flowery Branch, GA.
A first for some, just another day at the office for the veterans, but the Atlanta Falcons will open the 2025 training camp on Thursday, July 24th. Below, we will review the key dates on the schedule and the numbers players will be wearing. This season has been deemed by many the franchise's "Most important" season ever.
After seven years of not making it to the playoffs, this season seems different for the Atlanta Falcons. Players, fans, and NFL officials are all optimistic about the Atlanta Falcons chances of winning the NFC South this year and making a playoff run. Atlanta has experienced high hopes and optimism before, during training camp, but then the term "Falconing" would be used. A term that some define as the letdown being expected.
Last year's team received rave reviews with Kirk Cousins coming in to be the team's first franchise quarterback since Matt Ryan. He was supposed to be the savior that put this team over the hump, but after going 6-3 and sitting atop the NFC South all alone, things would take a turn when Cousins suffered an injury in a week 10 matchup with the New Orleans Saints.
Cousins would go on a stretch of throwing nine interceptions to zero touchdowns. With three weeks to go in the season, Michael Penix would be called upon to start. During that time, he would show flashes of what he could be, but it just wasn't enough for Atlanta to call it a successful year. Again, "Falconing."
Fast forward to this year, the team has bolstered the defensive side of the ball through the draft and in free agency. The offense has weapons, and Michael Penix has become a vocal leader, developing chemistry with his wide receivers. Bijan Robinson is a top running back in the league, and Kyle Pitts is back in a contract year to try to revive his career. Oh, and did I mention? Kirk Cousins is still a member of the team, only in a backup role. But what a backup to have if something doesn't go as planned.
Cousins could be thrust back into the starting role if Penix Jr. gets injured or doesn't play well. This will mark the second year in a row that the Falcons have had to play four playoff teams from a season ago within the first five weeks. Again, not too shabby to have that option coming off the bench with a healthy Kirk Cousins.
I've included below the training camp dates and jersey numbers that each player will be wearing for the 90-man roster in Flowery Branch during week one.
