Atlanta Falcons In The Running For Other Top Edge Rushers Set To Hit The Market

The Atlanta Falcons expect to be a top player in the free agency market this offseason when certain edge rushers become available. The Falcons may have options at the position other than Myles Garrett.

The Philadelphia Eagles and edge rusher Josh Sweat may go separate ways this offseason. Sweat, who is only 27 years old, would command upwards of $20 million annually. That number could rise depending on what destination may sign Sweat.

With a spectacular performance in this year's Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs, tallying 3 sacks and 7 QB pressures, his services will certainly result in the highest bidder, creating a war.

Signing Sweat would prove challenging given Atlanta's salary cap situation, but other options exist besides Myles Garrett, who recently requested he be relieved of his duties with the Cleveland Browns.

Jets edge rusher Haason Reddick will also test the waters of free agency after a considerable dip in the numbers while with New York. Reddick had four consecutive years in Philadelphia, averaging double-digit sack numbers. Still, even with the decline, Atlanta's new defensive coordinator, Jeff Ulbrich, could reunite with Reddick after spending the last bit of 2024 as his interim head coach with the Jets.

"The one thing I can say about Haason with 100% certainty, and I feel just so honored to have coached him and been around him, this guy's willing to do whatever it takes; he's one of the most unselfish players I've been around," Ulbrich said in late December.

One thing is for sure in Atlanta. Whether through free agency or building with the NFL Draft, Atlanta has spent years trying to figure out how to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

Ulbrich intends to be the culprit for creating that pressure and feels that Reddick still has a few valuable years left in him at the position.
