Australian spinner Matt Kuhnemann under investigation for suspect bowling action

The bowler’s action is suddenly under a cloud and he now has to undergo mandatory testing.

Matt Kuhnemann doubtful for Sri Lanka Test tour after sustaining thumb injury during BBL game

Fresh off a stunning Test series, Australian spin bowler Matthew Kuhnemann has had his action questioned by match officials.

Australian cricket officials have been reportedly rocked by the news, with the bowler now set to undergo mandatory testing (likely to be at Brisbane’s Centre of Excellence) within the next few weeks.

News Corp reports that those tests will be analysed by a bio-mechanist who will take the findings to the International Cricket Council.

Kuhnemann bowled with a fractured thumb in Sri Lanka but, despite the issue, was Australia’s leading wicket taker.

He finished the series with 16 wickets at 17.18 with teammate and legendary Aussie spinner Nathan Lyon dubbing him the bowler of the series for his heroics.

The report comes as a major surprise to local cricket officials.

Kuhnemann has not had an issue previously despite playing in five Tests and 28 first-class matches over the past four years.

Under official rules, bowlers can have a 15-degree bend in their arm but the action is illegal if the angle extends beyond that mark.

Kuhnemann will now have to sit out matches sanctioned by the ICC until the ICC has ticked off his action.

He could still take part in Sheffield Shield matches for Tasmania.
