Ava and Cody: GH’s Most Unorthodox And Intriguing New Couple

GH’s Ava and Cody pairing is both unorthodox and intriguing.

General Hospital has tossed an unexpected twosome onto the storyline canvas, Ava and Cody, and they’re the most unorthodox and intriguing new couple on the show. While they’re complete opposites with precious little in common, since their initial encounter at the Metro Court pool, it’s been hard to take your eyes off them.

Opposites Attract

He’s a rough around the edges stable hand at the Quartermaine estate with a penchant for gambling and a questionable background. She’s a refined art dealer with a killer past – literally. What makes things even more interesting is that Cody’s (Josh Kelly) only pursuing Ava (Maura West), because Kristina (Kate Mansi) hired him to seduce her. She wants the wicked Ava to fall for Cody and cause dissension between her and Ric (Rick Hearst) in an attempt to neutralize the duo, who are blackmailing her mom, Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn).

Natural Progression

Despite the relationship’s twisted start, it’s progressed naturally. Cody ingratiated himself into Ava’s life, after returning the sunglasses she left behind at the hotel pool and expressing an interest in learning about art. Before long he was doing some handyman work for her and leaned in for a kiss. Ava pushed him away, noting it couldn’t happen again, and Cody apologized for misreading the situation. Yet, instead of tossing him out on his ear, Ava noted that they could continue working together as long as there weren’t any future misunderstandings between them.

Yet, the surprise kiss has somewhat changed the dynamic between Ava and Cody. While outwardly disinterested in Cody’s advances, Ava suddenly seems to have an underlying curiosity about the rugged stable hand. It’s as if she’s seeing him in a different light and has realized that perhaps she could start using him to her advantage, since Ric is obviously still hung up on his ex, Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst).

A Real Romance?

Is it possible that a real romance could actually take off between Ava and Cody? Who knows? But at the very least they could embark on passionate affair. Cody could find himself taken in by Ava’s beauty, sophistication and charm, while she’s definitely noticed his brawny attributes. In some ways they’re a great match. Cody’s character has always operated in the gray zone, so a bad girl like Ava wouldn’t scare him off. In fact, he might actually find her enticing. Add actors Maura West and Josh Kelly’s special underlying chemistry to the mix, and this surprise GH couple is rife with all kinds of possibilities.
