The Colorado Avalanche have three top talents at the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament. And all of them are already leading the way for Team Canada.
The Colorado Avalanche have three star talents playing at the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament. And in their own way, each Avs star has already made an impact for the Canadians.
One star Avs player already on the scoresheet is Canadian superstar forward Nathan MacKinnon, who scored Canada's first goal -- and the first goal in 4 Nations Face-Off history -- in their 4-3 overtime victory over Sweden Wednesday night in Montreal. It was a gorgeous power play goal, set up perfectly by MacKinnon's fellow East Coast Canada superstar, Sidney Crosby.
MacKinnon and fellow Avs superstar Cale Makar were expected to dominate at the 4 Nations, and they've started off the tournament looking excellent. Makar led all Canadian players and Swedish players in ice time in Wednesday's game, logging 28:06. Meanwhile, Avs blueliner Devon Toews was second in ice time, with 25:53 of ice time. And MacKinnon put the opposition on notice -- whether it's at even-strength or with the extra man, he's willing and able to be a needle-mover for the Canadians.
Time will tell how the rest of the 4 Nations Face-Off unfolds, but in their first game, MacKinnon, Makar and Toews made it clear -- they're fully-prepared to make a difference, and Team Canada is benefitting from their contributions.
