Colorado made the first notable move of trade deadline week early on Saturday, acquiring defenseman Ryan Lindgren, forward Jimmy Vesey, and prospect blueliner Hank Kempf from the New York Rangers for Calvin de Haan, Juuso Parssinen, a conditional second-round pick, and a conditional fourth-round pick.
Lindgren, 27, is a left-shot defenseman on a one-year contract. He makes $4.5 million and is eligible to be an unrestricted free agent on July 1 if Colorado does not re-sign him. New York is retaining 50% of the remainder of his deal. He has two goals and 19 points this year.
Lindgren has spent most of the season playing on the top pair with Adam Fox. He averages 19:56 of ice time per game and led all Rangers defensemen in shorthanded ice time this season, playing 2:43 per game.
Vesey, a depth forward, has struggled offensively this year. He has four goals and two assists in 33 games but gives the Avs a bigger option in the bottom six. He’s also a useful penalty killer.
This trade leaves the Avs with just over $3 million in trade deadline cap space, according to Puck Pedia.
Both Parssinen and de Haan were in their first seasons with the Avalanche. De Haan was signed on July 1 and didn’t do enough to be a regular in the lineup. Parssinen came to Colorado via trade from Nashville just over two months ago. He had two goals and four assists in 22 games.
