The Colorado Avalanche would be wise to add to their forward depth before the start of the season. They have had several departures from last season's roster, including Yakov Trenin, Brandon Duhaime, Andrew Cogliano, and Zach Parise.

With the Avalanche losing multiple forwards, it would not hurt for them to bring in at least one more before the start of the season. When looking at the players who are still available on the free-agent market, one player who stands out is Daniel Sprong.

It is pretty surprising that Sprong has yet to be signed. The 27-year-old winger is coming off a solid season with the Detroit Red Wings, posting 18 goals and 43 points in 76 games. He also had 21 goals and 46 points in 66 games with the Seattle Kraken in 2022-23, proving he can provide solid secondary scoring. In addition, he put up these numbers in a bottom-six role, which is impressive.

Due to the Avalanche needing a bit more production in their bottom six, they should consider taking a flier on Sprong. He would be an excellent fit on their third line and a clear option for their power play because of his offensive skills. Given his offense-first style of play, he would likely not be an option for the Avalanche's penalty kill if signed.

When nothing that we are over a week into free agency, there is a good chance Sprong can be had for an affordable price on a one-year deal. As a result, the Avalanche should consider taking a shot on him.
