The Colorado Avalanche are entering the summer in an interesting position. The Central Division club has several free agent forwards, with Jonathan Drouin, Brandon Duhaime, Yakov Trenin, and Andrew Cogliano having expired deals. Zach Parise has also hung up the skates.
Because of this, the Avalanche could be in the market for forward help this offseason. Interestingly, one name being viewed as a potential Avalanche target is Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane.
The Avalanche were one of the clubs connected to Kane before he signed with the Red Wings this season. As a result, with the Avalanche potentially needing more forwards, it would not be too far-fetched if they became interested in him again.
As a result, BetMichigan has the Avalanche (+850) as the second-most likely team to sign Kane if he does not re-sign with the Red Wings (+115). The Boston Bruins are ahead of them on their list at +800.
If the Avalanche cannot re-sign Drouin, taking a look at Kane again could make sense. The Buffalo native would have the potential to be a big-time addition to their top six, as he showed this season that he can still produce like a star. In 50 games in 2023-24, he had 20 goals and 47 points.
If signed, Kane could create some real magic on a line with Nathan MacKinnon and Artturi Lehkonen. However, he also would be a good linemate for Casey Mittelstadt to work with.
The Avalanche would need to get creative to sign Kane, but given their past interest in him, this could be something to pay attention to during the summer.
