Bachelorette Star Diagnosed With Breast Cancer At Only 34

Bachelor Nation viewers met Katie Thurston when she joined Season 25 of The Bachelor. She didn’t find love with Matt James but found it with Blake Moynes on Season 17 of The Bachelorette.

Fans were there through her breakup with Blake and multiple failed relationships that led her to comedian Jeff Arcuri. The two got married last month but not under the best of circumstances. While they planned to marry eventually, that timeline sped up significantly after her breast cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

In February, Katie Thurston went to the doctor after discovering a lump. The lump had actually been there for a while, but she initially ignored it. After many tests, the lump came back as cancer. The reality star was diagnosed with breast cancer at just 34 years old. The diagnosis definitely rattled her, but she’s determined to go from cancer patient to cancer survivor.

Katie Thurston Reveals New Plan To Fight Cancer

Katie Thurston was supposed to start chemo treatment this week. The original plan was for six treatments of chemotherapy. However, right before she was heading out to her first appointment, she received a call from her doctor telling her not to go. Why not? Her test results conflicted.

Right around the time of her cancer diagnosis, Katie moved from California to New York. Her initial tests were at a hospital in California. Now that she lives in New York, she moved her care to Columbia Hospital. The initial test results showed she was HER+, which meant her cancer was more aggressive.

However, the tests at Columbia show her as HER negative. What does that mean? Katie Thurston may not need to have chemotherapy after all. That would be great news for her because she had a difficult time during the class she took about chemo before the treatment was canceled.

She shared that the new treatment plan is a combination of anti-estrogen medication and targeted oral therapy. She is also undergoing more tests to get a concrete answer about whether she needs chemo or not.

Katie Thurston returned to social media after her latest doctor appointment to share an update. She said that she is still waiting on re-tests. But she remained optimistic. “We are so close to the finish line of this first chapter,” she wrote.

She promised to share another update as soon as she knows more. The reality star assured fans that she would do whatever the doctor felt is best for her and her body. She said she has a lot of confidence in her oncologist and whatever treatment plan they decide.
