Bachelorette Katie Thurston Reveals Plans Used For IVF
Bachelorette Katie Thurston is sharing more about her plans for children after finishing treatment for stage 4 breast cancer. She revealed that her cancer did spread to her liver but essentially her treatment plan has not changed.
She will be doing chemotherapy beginning next Friday. Unfortunately, Jeff will be on tour for a few weeks but if she feels good following treatment she can fly to be with him at this comedy tour locations.
Katie also revealed that she will be doing six rounds of chemotherapy, three weeks apart. Ahead of starting treatments, she went to Instagram to answer more fan questions about her treatment including the fertility process she has been through the past few weeks.

One fan wanted to know why she was given the Zoladex injection and if she had any side effects from it. She shared that the injection will help her with fertility preservation. It will put her ovaries into a temporary state of menopause or hibernation as she refers to it.
This will help protect her ovaries from the chemotherapy. Katie shared this is really important to reduce estrogen during treatment, especially with ER+/PR+ breast cancer. Estrogen can cause the cancer to grow so reducing it will benefit her overall.
As for side effects, Katie did not have any. She applied ice to her stomach for three minutes before the injection to help numb the area. This helped it be basically pain-free. She had no major side effects afterward.
Estrogen can cause her cancer to grow. However, Katie revealed that her fertility specialist and oncologist both gave her the all-clear for a fast-track ten-day fertility run. In fact, she took Letrozole to lower estrogen production. Her oncologist assured her the fertility treatment did not affect her cancer diagnosis.
Will Having Cancer In Her Liver Make Beating Disease Harder?
Bachelorette Katie Thurston also revealed that having the cancer spread to her liver will not really change her treatment plan. It did raise her from stage 3 to stage 4 but essentially it is the same kind of cancer just in her liver and not just her breast.
She previously said, “Given that I am triple positive and the spots on my liver are fairly small and detected early, I feel very optimistic on my outcome. I’m very confident in the team at Columbia and I just wanted to share that update.”
It has taken her a while since diagnosis to get everything in order to begin treatment. There have been tons of testing and further biopsies. Plus, she went through fertility treatment. Now, she’s ready to really start her battle.
Katie has had the full support of everyone in Bachelor Nation. She admits it’s really helped her to share her story and receive so much support.
