Since fans first met her on The Bachelor, Katie Thurston has been honest and transparent about every aspect of her life. Her refreshing honesty is what made fans fall in love with her, even if Matt James didn’t. After striking out with Matt, Katie was named the next Bachelorette.
But her relationship with Blake Moynes didn’t last very long. She went on to rekindle a romance with John Hersey, another contestant from her Bachelorette season. He wasn’t the one for her either. Neither was Vince Xu, whom she dated on FBoy Island.
The next time she found love, Katie Thurston kept it to herself for a three-month waiting period. She announced she was dating comedian Jeff Arcuri in May 2024. They were engaged by the summer. But instead of planning their future together, they were dealt a shocking blow when Katie was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year.

Jeff Arcuri has been her rock throughout the treatment. They eloped in March. Soon after, Katie Thurston found out that the initial diagnosis of Stage 3 cancer was incorrect. She has Stage 4 breast cancer, and it’s spread to her liver.
That’s a scary diagnosis. But her doctors put her on oral medications. She revealed earlier this month that the tumors have shrunk since she’s been on the medication. However, she’s also in menopause at just 34 after taking hormone-blocking injections to help prevent the cancer from spreading.
Forced Menopause
As any woman knows, hot flashes are one of the worst menopause symptoms. Katie Thurston has been struggling with finding a way to manage the hot flashes and other side effects from the treatment.
She often shares updates about her health on the Boobie Broadcast channel she created on Instagram. She revealed that she’s trying an antidepressant that’s also used to manage hot flashes. The first day on the new medication didn’t go well. What’s the latest update?
Katie Thurston Feeling The Side Effects Of New Meds
The second day of the new medication didn’t go much better than the first. The Bachelorette star had planned to shower and run errands. However, she was too tired to do much of anything.
Her husband ran her errands for her while she stayed home and used the energy she had to make juices. She’s been trying alternative methods, including juicing, to help her body adjust to the cancer treatments.
Katie Thurston said she’s still “tweaking” the medications to combat the exhaustion from the cancer treatments and hot flashes. “I don’t want to be tired. There’s still so much I want to do,” she wrote.

Bachelorette Star Shares Sad Reality Of Stage 4 Cancer
One thing Katie Thurston doesn’t tolerate as a Stage 4 cancer patient is doom and gloom and the assumption that it’s a death sentence. However, she also has to be realistic. She shared her thoughts on Instagram about living with Stage 4 cancer.
She said that one of the saddest things about the diagnosis is accepting that you’ll never be cancer-free. “You’re always fighting cancer. Always worried about where it lingers,” she admitted.

In her case, she’ll always have to take medication to suppress her body’s estrogen and ovaries. She candidly confessed to considering removing her ovaries.
Despite the Stage 4 diagnosis, Katie Thurston plans to live a long, long time.
