Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman Claps Back at Captain Dylan Larkin After Comments Last Week

The 2024/25 was an up-and-down rollercoaster ride for the Detroit Red Wings, as they started slow before turning it around under Todd McLellan, but ultimately, they would miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs again, having not seen post-season action since the 2015/16 campaign.

After the season ended, Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin called out the organization for a lack of movement at the trade deadline, revealing that a move there could have boosted the team and buoyed them in the Stanley Cup Playoff hunt in the Eastern Conference.

Especially March, It was hard that we didn't do anything, and I felt the group, we didn't gain any momentum from the trade deadline.

It took a while, but now, we've officially got a response from General Manager Steve Yzerman, who clearly wasn't happy with Larkin's assessment, seemingly calling out his work as a leader in the process.

I'm counting on our best players, our leaders to give us a morale boost. That's what they're paid for and that's the expectation from them.

At this point in time, things in Detroit haven't been pretty, with questionable moves from the organization and a lack of consistency on the ice, and now this tension only adds to the issues with the Red Wings.

It's unclear if these comments from Yzerman could put Larkin's future in Detroit in question, as he has been a solid player and a leader for the organization, but after the GM's comments, we could be seeing major cracks starting to form.
