On July 18, 2024, the Houston Texans announced the signing of Cephus. Concurrently, the organization waived their seventh-round draft selection, offensive lineman LaDarius Henderson

Cephus, a former Detroit Lions player, was released by the Rams after a season on the practice squad without promotion. He signed a reserve contract in January but did not make the 90-man roster.

He defends well against defensive backs and is a solid route runner with decent hands, capable of running any route. Although Cephus is smart and productive, he is slow off the line, but the way he uses his hands and quick twitch makes up for it.

He sued the Badgers after being expelled in 2018 for sexual assault charges. Acquitted of all charges, he was reinstated to the school and football team before the 2019 school year.
