Even three years after leaving the Browns, Baker Mayfield hasn’t let up on one of his favorite AFC North targets — the Cincinnati Bengals. In a recent appearance on Pardon My Take, the now-Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback reflected on his time in Cleveland, and one particular rivalry still clearly brings him joy.
“Every time we played Cincinnati when I was in Cleveland, I felt like, ‘Alright, I’m about to have 300 yards at least.’ It’s a great feeling,” Mayfield said, laughing.
While the stats don’t fully support the 300-yard claim — Mayfield never quite hit that mark — he did come awfully close, with passing totals of 297, 284, and 279 yards against the Bengals. More importantly, his win-loss record in the Battle of Ohio was stellar. He went 6-1 against Cincinnati and posted a sparkling 19-7 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
The former No. 1 pick also delivered fireworks in those matchups, including a five-touchdown performance in 2020 that solidified his reputation as a Bengal killer. He may not have always hit the 300-yard benchmark, but his confidence and swagger clearly showed every time he stepped on the field against Cincinnati.
This quote may sting a bit for Bengals fans, especially now that Joe Burrow has helped turn the tide in Cincinnati. But it’s clear that for Baker, those divisional games still live rent-free in his head — and in the best way possible.
Whether he’s with the Browns or Buccaneers, Baker Mayfield never misses a chance to throw one more jab at the Bengals.
