Barclay Goodrow’s summer was hectic for a number of reasons.

The New York Rangers bought out Goodrow’s contract at the beginning of the offseason as he was almost immediately claimed by the San Jose Sharks.

According to The New York Posts’ Larry Brooks, Goodrow was not happy about how this whole situation unfolded. Brooks reported there is a belief that Goodrow included the Sharks on his 15-team, no-trade list.

Goodrow has his own opinions on how the Rangers handled everything, but right now he wants to leave that all in the past.

“I think whatever happened in the summer will kind of stay in the summer,” Goodrow said. “I have a lot of different opinions on what happened, but I’ll choose to keep those to myself. And I’m excited to be here and excited to get things started.”

While reports originally came out about Goodrow’s desire not to play in San Jose, he’s made clear that he is actually looking forward to a new chapter.

"I think it was kind of more blown up in the media than what was actually going on," Goodrow said. "I think just because I didn't talk to you guys didn't necessarily mean I needed to get over something. I was enjoying my summer."

This past season, Goodrow struggled in the regular season, but he really emerged in the playoffs for the Rangers.

The 31-year-old forward recorded six goals, two assists and eight points in 16 playoff games while averaging 13:09 minutes per game.

He’s looking to help the Sharks climb out of their rebuild and ascend them back into playoff contention.

“It’s a new challenge,” Goodrow said. “Obviously, things haven’t gone as well as everyone had hoped here in the last few years. It’s time to turn things around and get it back in a place where it was when I first came here.”
