Bengals 2025 Roster Breakdown: Cal Adomitis to experience the other side of competition for the first time

Adomitis enters his fourth season in the NFL and with the Bengals after going undrafted during the 2022 NFL Draft. He spent five years at Pitt and played in 64 consecutive games. His final season in 2021 earned him the Patrick Mannelly Award, which is annually given to nation's top long snapper. 

Cincinnati signed Adomitis as a UDFA to compete with long-time LS Clark Harris during the 2022 offseason. Harris was 38 years old at the time and was playing on a one-year contract. Adomitis lost the battle in training camp and was waived, but returned to the practice squad for the start of the regular season. Harris ended up tearing his biceps in Week 1 and missed the rest of the season, which allowed Adomitis to be signed onto the active roster. He's yet to leave the roster since. 

Adomitis has played in 51 games (including postseason) since and has been retained every offseason on one-year deals. 

Contract Details

Adomitis signed a one-year, $1.1 million extension in February. His potential cash earnings and salary cap hit for this year are both $1.1 million, which is non-guaranteed. 

Roster Outlook

Adomitis' Bengals career began with as the newcomer in a competition, and before his fourth year can begin, he'll have to win as the incumbent for the first time. The Bengals signed William Wagner, the consensus top-rated LS from this year's draft class, as a UDFA to battle Adomitis during training camp and preseason action. It's one of the few 50-50 battles on the roster in which the winner stays, and the loser goes to the practice squad or is out of the building entirely. 

Cincinnati pitting Adomitis against Wagner for the next six weeks is intended to improve the special teams operation as a whole. Field goal kicking was a weakness last year, and while kicker Evan McPherson took most of the blame, but Adomitis' snaps weren't consistent enough and had an impact in the process. If Wagner proves to be the better option, Adomitis doesn't have a strong enough contract to protect himself from getting cut. 

I lean towards Adomitis, the more experienced player, winning this competition, but a rookie Ryan Rehkow won a three-man punter battle last year. Anything can happen in the world of special teams.
