Bengals Get Major Trey Hendrickson Prediction

Trey Hendrickson is not the only player currently holding out from his team due to a contract dispute. However, his stance has become unquestionable the nastiest of this offseason cycle.

Hendrickson watched teammates Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins sign major deals near the start of free agency. While those two are deserving of such compensation, Hendrickson has also been a major contributor for the team in recent years.

His combined 35 sacks are the most by any player of the last two seasons by a decent margin. But the Bengals have not been willing to meet his asking price and stopped negotiations altogether.

That led to Hendrickson going public with bold remarks about the organization and their handling of the situation.

It appears the team and the player are nowhere near any sort of a resolution whether that be a trade or an actual extension. However, Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports believes they will eventually make amends and find at least a short-term answer.

"Do the Bengals want to fork over big bucks to an aging, expensive defender after ponying up the dough for two wide receivers this year? Probably not. But what else are they going to do to generate a pass rush? "

That's a tough question to answer without the recent sacks leader in the NFL and his potential replacement, Shemar Stewart, in the fold. Stewart has not yet signed his rookie deal due to his own qualms with some language in the contract.

Nonetheless, Benjamin predicts a two-year, $64 million deal for Hendrickson.

"If they wanted to deal him for premium picks, they could've done so long ago. We anticipate another lucrative yet Band-Aid resolution."

A short term deal would seem to be a fine compromise. The Bengals avoid a long-term commitment while Hendrickson gets two years worth of the salary he has campaigned for.

But this may work out better in theory than in practice. Hendrickson's deep-rooted frustrations are not going away anytime soon and there will be ills to address from both sides.

Either way, it's clear that Hendrickson is nowhere near a guarantee to be on the field for Cincinnati in 2025.
