From the "ManningCast" to "Toy Story Football Funday" and even Nickelodeon slime in the end zone, the NFL has tried numerous times to provide different styles of broadcast for its games. The Cincinnati Bengals will be featured in the latest attempt.
ESPN announced Monday evening that the Bengals' Week 14 "Monday Night Football" matchup against the Dallas Cowboys will feature the debut of "The Simpsons Funday Football," an animated rendering of the actual game in real-time featuring characters from the long-running television show.
Much like the "Toy Story Football Funday" game from last season featuring the Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars, the viewing experience for this game will be set in the Simpsons' universe featuring player-tracking data to render live player movements.
Bart Simpson will represent the Bengals, and Homer Simpson the Cowboys. Both characters will even take the field during certain moments. Players will even be interviewed by Marge and Lisa Simpson.
ESPN, Disney, the Simpsons and the National Football League will premiere The Simpsons Funday Football on Monday, Dec. 9, an animated Monday Night Football game transformed in real-time into the iconic Simpsons world using Sony's Beyond Sports Technology. Atoms Stadium in Springfield will host the fully immersive fan viewing experience featuring the Cincinnati Bengals at the Dallas Cowboys, ESPN's Monday Night Football game that evening. - bengals.com
Fans will be able to watch the broadcast on Disney+, ESPN+, and on mobile with NFL+. They'll see Bengals players appear "as a motion-enabled, animated player" for the game.
So if you have friends and family who like football but like the Simpsons a little bit more, this is their time to shine.
