Bijan Robinson explains his involvement in offensive scheme

Bijan Robinson isn’t only making plays on the field, he’s drawing up plays off it. Earlier this week, the Atlanta Falcons running back revealed how involved he is in creating the team’s offensive schemes.

“Me and [offensive coordinator] Zac [Robinson] talk every day just about these kind of these kind of routes and how we can get open on some different things or how we can use the scheme to just affect a linebacker, DB or safety,” Robinson said.

“It’s good to have communication like that obviously, because last year I was trying to learn everything and get everything down for what the offense was already. But, this year, with the new offense and having to install with that, and how I can ask questions now and how we can come to agreements — it’s been really fun to be a part of it.”

In late January, the Atlanta Falcons hired Zac Robinson to be their next offensive coordinator. He previously served as the Los Angeles Rams’ pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Evidently, Bijan Robinson is enjoying the fresh face.

Of course, Atlanta’s offensive schemes didn’t prevent the former Texas standout from having a jaw-dropping rookie season last year. In the 2023 campaign, Robinson tallied 214 carries for 976 yards and four touchdowns. Additionally, Robinson recorded 487 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns.

Bijan Robinson reveals his expectations for Year 2

Robinson’s 1,464 all-purpose yards were the 11th-most in the NFL last season. Robinson isn’t tempering his expectations for his second year in the NFL.

“Obviously to elevate as a teammate,” Robinson said of his goals. “I want to lead by example in a way that everybody will be on the same page what I’m doing. It was really good to have the vets that we did have last year. Because I learned so much from them.

“As a team, we want to win the Super Bowl, but that’s what everybody says,” he continued. “What are you going to do as a team when nobody’s watching, and I think team dinners and stuff like that are always a big thing because you build so much chemistry.”

Next season will usher in a new era for the Falcons. On January 25, 2024, the franchise announced Raheem Morris‘ return to the organization, this time as the 19th head coach in Falcons history.

Morris was the Falcons’ defensive coordinator and interim head coach in 2020, but has spent the previous three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. Now, with Bijan Robinson by his side, Morris will aim to elevate the Falcons to new heights.
