The Buffalo Bills' offseason has gone about as well as one could have hoped for, with the franchise doing a good job of not only bringing in players at key positions of need but also retaining key players.
Joshua Palmer, Joey Bosa, and Michael Hoecht are the big additions, while Khalil Shakir, Greg Rousseau, Terrel Bernard, and Josh Allen's re-signings are also good business.
But the franchise and GM Brandon Beane can't stop there, and for USA Today's Nate Davis, two things are left on the general manager's to-do list if they are to "win the offseason.''
"About all that’s left for Beane to do is lock up RB James Cook and CB Christian Benford, who can be free agents in 2026," Davis writes. "All things considered, the Mafia can definitively expect another AFC East crown in 2025 … and maybe a whole lot more."
Cook is still waiting on his deal, and if after the players mentioned above all get new contracts.
James wants to be one of the highest-paid backs in football, and coming off a season that saw him have a total of 19 rushing touchdowns (16 regular season, three in playoffs), plus yet another 1,000-yard season, it is easy to see why he doesn't want to play on the final year of his rookie deal.
As for Benford, his value to the defense can't be understated, and his PFF overall ranking of five out of 222 corners with an overall grading of 82.6 shows you the value he brings to Sean McDermott's defense.
Buffalo has had a solid offseason, but re-sign both Cook and Benford, and suddenly the Bills are cooking for 2025.
