All offseason, we have heard how the Buffalo Bills are Super Bowl contenders and will be one of the teams to beat this upcoming season.
Such has been Buffalo's regular-season dominance over the past couple of years, to then fail in the postseason, there are some who don't care what happens in the regular season; they only care what the Bills do in the playoffs.
And as training camp begins, quarterback Josh Allen is aware of the Super Bowl credentials of his team, but knows they can't look too far ahead.
“You can't win the Super Bowl without making the playoffs,” Allen said. “That's our number one goal. That's the standard that coach [Sean] McDermott set here for so long is playoff-caliber. You don't get in the playoffs, you don't win the Super Bowl. It's as simple as that. So, you have to take every step before that in order to succeed and to accomplish that goal. So, again, we're taking it one day at a time."
So, yes, the main goal from outside the building is the Super Bowl, as it should be, but the first priority for the locker room is to secure a playoff spot. Because, as Allen stated, you can't win the Super Bowl if you aren't in the postseason.
It is shaping up to be a defining one for Allen and the franchise. Seen with perhaps the best chance in the Allen era to win the organization's first-ever Super Bowl, the expectations on Buffalo are sky high, with only one thing able to satisfy the media and fans alike - a ring.
Allen knows that, and so does the locker room, but they can't get caught looking too far ahead.
So, while Super Bowl is the big target on the whiteboard, Buffalo has to first make the postseason.
