Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Dion Dawkins got emotional when talking about the plane crash that happened near his property on Thursday. Dawkins told reporters he hopes the family of the pilot who died in the crash is going to be okay.
“I still wonder why things happen in life, but tragedies happen all of the time,” Dawkins, said after practice, per ESPN. “The biggest point about it is I just hope that the guy, the pilot’s family is OK. I hope that they’re doing all right because somebody lost their life today for an accident, a mechanical thing, something. And I’m glad that my family is perfectly fine. The alarm systems, the security guards that are there and all other people that are involved that help keep us safe. Everything was going off, so having the right people in line, and for the family of that pilot, my prayers are out.”
A single-engine aircraft crashed near a property owned by Dawkins Thursday morning. Police said only the pilot was in the plane, which was flying from Lansing, Michigan to White Plains, New York. The plane experienced a mechanical issue and landed 100-200 feet from the nearest residence.
Dion Dawkins is still ‘trying to figure it out’
Dawkins was not at the residence at the time of the crash as he was at the Bills’ facility preparing for practice. His partner, Daiyaana Muhammad, was there checking the mail. Dawkins was not present at the first part of practice open to the media, and the Bills listed him as a non-participant.
“It’s just in this world and in this life, things happen, and you just got to, I hate to say, adapt with it, but you got to try to figure it out and adapt,” Dawkins said. “Once I leave here that’s what I’ll be dealing with for the rest of the day. We got a game on Sunday, so still trying to figure it out.”
Dion Dawkins, 30, joined the Bills in 2017 when the team drafted him in the second round. The former Temple Owls star is one of the best offensive linemen in the league as he has reached the Pro Bowl the last three seasons.
