Lamar Jackson's Christmas Day performance for the Baltimore Ravens sparked a heated MVP debate, resulting in Josh Allen's name trending on Wednesday.
Jackson propelled the Ravens to the 31-2 win over the Houston Texans, finishing with 168 yards and two touchdowns on 10-of-15 pass completion. He also had a touchdown on the ground after rushing four times for 87 yards.
In the process, Jackson set a new NFL record for the most rushing yards as a QB, surpassing Michael Vick's record of 6,109 rushing yards.
The performance had fans buzzing, with many claiming Jackson deserves to win the NFL MVP award. Several supporters also compared him to the Buffalo Bills signal-caller, who's currently leading the race to bag the highest individual honor in the sport.
"With all due respect to Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson is the MVP. Guy is having a historically great season," a commenter wrote.
Another argued, "Quick reminder that the Buffalo Bills strength of schedule this year was #21, while the Ravens strength of schedule was #4, and Lamar Jackson STILL has better stats across the board than Josh Allen. Lamar for MVP. No debate."
"No trust me, Josh Allen couldn’t even do Lamar Jackson is doing," a social media user added.
"I haven’t commented on the NFL MVP race but in what world is Josh Allen the MVP over Lamar Jackson?" a poster further stated.
A fifth fan said, "Lamar Jackson should win MVP over Josh Allen for his exceptional stats, leading the league in passing TDs and QB rating, plus his H2H win."
"Lamar Jackson > Josh Allen," another Jackson fan shared.
After Wednesday's game, Lamar Jackson now leads the league in passing touchdowns with 39 (tied with Joe Burrow) and is third in passing yards with 3,955. He also has the best QB rating in the league at 77.7, ahead of Josh Allen's 76.8, per ESPN.
While Allen has more rushing TDs (11) compared to Jackson (four), the former has only 514 rushing yards while the latter has 852.
Sure enough, there's an argument to be made for Jackson to be MVP. The odds still favor Allen (-190), but the Ravens star certainly improved his chances (+140) after his Christmas showing.
