The Irwin family is beloved for their phenomenal work in wildlife conservation, as well as for their humility and charisma. Bindi Irwin and her younger brother, Robert Irwin, share a beautiful sibling bond, and it’s often on display when they give interviews.
Bindi Irwin Reveals She Is Protective of Her Brother
Many people are being introduced to Robert in a new way after the announcement that he will join DWTS and also his underwear campaign for the Australian brand, Bonds. Bindi has reacted to the attention he gets and how it makes her feel.
“We’re about five and a half years apart, so I kinda feel like his second mom where I’m kind of a mother hen,” she said in an interview on the “Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce” podcast on June 5. “I’m, like, always trying to protect him, make sure he’s okay, and I have been that way his whole life.”
She also commented on how some people have come on strong and their inappropriate behavior toward Robert has been “intense.”
“Do I get a little bit scared of the women and girls and some guys that kind of are very intense? It’s a lot,” she said on “Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce.” “It can be a lot, but he’s doing really well with all of it, and I am very proud of him. Just watching him shine and flourish and find his own path and voice is so inspiring.”
Robert was the first DWTS celebrity contestant to be announced (so far, only he and Alix Earle have been confirmed, although there is plenty of speculation about the other stars who could be joining them). Robert will be following in his sister’s footsteps when he stars on “Dancing With the Stars” Season 34 because Bindi competed alongside pro dancer Derek Hough in Season 21 and won the Mirrorball Trophy.
Bindi reflected on how the announcement of Robert’s inclusion in the show in April coincided with his underwear campaign. And what does she think about this?
“Wow. I will say there are some things as his sister that I can’t just unsee,” she joked. “Because when he did the Dancing announcement, he was also just shirtless, and he recently did his, like, Bonds commercial where he was just in his underwear, and it is, it is rough.” But all jokes aside, she confessed to being “supportive” of her brother and proud of how he was “taking the message of conservation to new heights.”
