Blackhawks Forward Is Extension Candidate To Watch

The Chicago Blackhawks will have several players in the final year of their contracts during the 2025-26 season. Due to this, there is certainly a chance that we could see them sign some of their players to contract extensions, whether that is this off-season or during the 2025-26 campaign.

When looking at the Blackhawks' pending unrestricted free agents (UFAs) for next season, captain Nick Foligno is undoubtedly among the most notable ones. The 37-year-old winger is entering the final season of his contract in 2025-26, and it is certainly fair to wonder if the Blackhawks could look to sign him to an extension because of it.

Foligno has been an incredible leader for the Blackhawks' young players as they continue their rebuild. Thus, if the veteran forward is open to continuing his career beyond next season, it would make a lot of sense for them to extend him.

However, besides being an important mentor for the Blackhawks, he is also still an impactful player at this stage of his career. In 78 games this past season with the Blackhawks this past season, he recorded 15 goals, 20 assists, 35 points, and 200 hits. With this, he is still capable of proving solid secondary offensive production and plenty of grit. Thus, keeping him around beyond next season would certainly not be a bad thing.

Nevertheless, it will be intriguing to see what Foligno's future in Chicago looks like. However, for now, his main focus will be to try to help the Blackhawks take a big step forward during the 2025-26 season.
